Legalising the use of the whole hemp plant, could see profits grow 10 fold for UK farmers!
76With the rise in popularity of CBD hemp in the UK, this has cause the general public to view Cannabis in a different light. With so many people now benefiting from using the ever so popular CBD oils, the demand has now brought the legality of growing hemp in the UK in debate.
Currently, although hemp can be grown legally in the UK under license, the whole plant cannot be used meaning that the leaves and flowers have to be destroyed. This mean then hemp bio mass that contains the cannabinoids is imported from outside of the UK, resulting in millions of £s potential losses that would otherwise be earnt by UK farmers.
Sky News investigates speaking to hemp farmer, Steve Barron and learns that if he was able to use the whole plant his income of about £12K would rise to over £100K.
Similarly, the news journalist learns from LDN CBD that they are having to bring in foreign CBD products to meet the demand for the products and also expresses his desire for the products to be made in fully in the UK.
Some UK companies like Bridge Farm Group already have the infrastructure to cultivate hemp and produce CBD extracts at a high quality, but fear there are still too many changes required in the UK before this can happen.
